Graça Machel is one of the world’s leading advocates for women, children, and communities affected by conflict and injustice. She is the Chair of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, and Chair of the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes, and President of the Foundation for Community Development, as well as the founder of the Graça Machel Trust.

After the declaration of Mozambique’s independence, Machel became the country’s first Education Minister. Graça produced a ground-breaking UNICEF report on the impact of armed conflict on children that changed the way the United Nations and member states respond in conflict zones. Since then, she has worked tirelessly in support of global health, child welfare, and women’s rights.

Patron - Dr. Nkosana Moyo

Dr Nkosana Moyo, an Eisenhower Fellow and a WEF Global Leader of Tomorrow alumnus, holds a PhD in Physics from Imperial College, University of London and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, UK. 

Formerly the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the African Development Bank. Before joining the AfDB, Dr Moyo worked at Actis Capital LLP as Managing Partner for the Africa Business and also served at the World Bank’s IFC as an Associate Director. 

Dr Moyo is currently the Executive Chair of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies, MINDS, which he founded.Dr. Nkosana Moyo holds a PhD in Physics from Imperial College, University of London and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, UK, he is an Eisenhower fellow. He was previously the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the African Development Bank before he became the founder of the the Mandela Institute of Development Studies (MINDS).

Patron - Dr. Reuel Khoza

Dr. Khoza is currently the Chairman of Aka Capital (Pty) Limited; he is also the former Chairman of Nedbank Limited, Nedbank Group, and founding Chairman of the NBF.  

He is currently  aFellow and President of the Institute of Directors (IoD) in South Africa; Former member of the Presidential Economic Advisory Panel (RSA);  Former  member of the Honorary International Investment Council of Nigeria, and a member, past director and patron of the Black Management Forum (BMF).  

He is the author of several books including;  “Attuned Leadership and Let Africa Lead” and is the co-author of “The Power of Governance”.

Geoff is a past Chairman of the JSE and was a member of the board from 1991 - 2008 and  also the former Head: Government and International Affairs, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Division, promoting  the JSE.  Other positions he held were Executive Committee member of the African Securities Exchange Association (ASEA); Council Member of the National Advisory Council for Innovation (NACI).

Currently he is an Honorary Fellow of the Da Vinci Institute of Technology;  Trustee of Brand South Africa; Director of the NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity) Board; Patron of Education Africa (EA); Patron of The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH); Director of the Grootbos Foundation; among many others. 

Deputy Chairman - Andile Sangqu

Andile serves as a director on the Anglo American SA and Zimele boards, and as a non-executive director on the Anglo American Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore boards. His qualifications include, amongst others, a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Honours), a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business Leadership.

Andile was previously group executive of sustainability and risk at Impala Platinum. Prior to his role at Impala Platinum, Andile was executive director for Glencore Xstrata South Africa, served on the Chamber of Mines’ National Development Plan Committee and held executive and non-executive roles at Kagiso Trust Investments. Andile currently serves as the vice president of the Chamber of Mines.

CEO - Lynette Chen

Lynette is an African development expert, having actively contributed to initiatives such as the BEE Charter and the Presidential International Advisory Council on ICT in South Africa. She was formerly a senior government and public affairs manager at Hewlett-Packard South Africa (HP), being exposed to African and international business while implementing progressive policies in line with BEE principles. 

Lynette also serves on the Board of Directors of FANRPAN, and was the Vice-Chair of Enablis. She holds qualifications in Communications and Public Relations and has also completed the African Leadership Programme from Wits Business School in South Africa and is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s African Leadership Initiative

Independent - Patrick Kabuya

Patrick, Chairperson of Audit and Risk Committee, is a Senior Financial Management Specialist at the World Bank. His role involves strengthening accountancy profession, corporate governance, and public finance management in Africa.  He serves in a number of leadership roles. He holds a Master’s degree in International Accounting from University of Johannesburg and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, Fellow of ACCA and a Fellow of African Leadership Initiative (Aspen Institute).  He has been involved in NBF since 2007.

 

Director - Cas Coovadia

Cas obtained his B.Com from the University College - Durban in 1971 and has contributed to numerous articles and publications on housing finance, civil society, local government and the role of civic organisations in governance.

Cas is currently the Managing Director at the Banking Association South of Africa.  He has played a central role in the negotiations leading to the signing of the Financial Sector Charter and is playing a critical role in the implementation of agreements reached in the Charter.

Cas has also spent time with the Kagiso Group, managing a small venture capital company that invested in emerging manufacturing enterprises.

Director - Prof. Wiseman Nkuhlu

Professor Nkuhlu is currently the Chancellor of the University of Pretoria and Chairman of Rothschild (South Africa). He was formally the Deputy Chairman of AngloGoldAshanti and previously Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee 2007 – 2013 and Trustee of the African Centre for Constructive Resolutions of Conflicts (ACCORD).

Other organisations he has served at a senior level include the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Standard Bank, Old Mutual and Tongaat Hulett. He was also the Advisor of the President of the Republic of South Africa from 2000 to 2005.

Director - Mark Williams

Mark is the founder of the MiCO Group of Companies that includes businesses in mining, agriculture, financial services, property and retail. He is operationally involved as the Chief Executive of Surenet Financial Services Group (a registered Financial Services Provider). 

He is the former CEO of the Ubank Group, Retail Director of Barclays Bank Africa and non-executive director of the Banking Association of South Africa. In 2008, he was awarded as the Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum, Switzerland and currently serves as a YGL alumni. He is a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa and currently serves on several boards of private companies.

Director - Sean Murphy

Sean has 25 years experience in business management, financial and economic analysis, capacity building and institutional development with particular emphasis on the economic and financial analysis of development initiatives (sectors include: agribusiness, urban water and wastewater services, water resources, environment and natural resources, agriculture, rural development, education and transport).

He has extensive involvement in business planning, feasibility studies, business case development, master planning, due diligence and project preparation for organisations such as DFID (UKAID), EBRD, EU, the World Bank, the AfDB, among many other commercial banks.

Mark Gregg-MacDonald has been with Transnet SOC Limited for 15 years and is a member of the Transnet Group Executive. 

Past experience includes time in the Construction and Cellular Communications industries. 

Mr. Gregg-MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Hons) degree from the University of South Africa and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984. He also completed a senior management programme at Henley Management College (UK).

He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

She was previously an Executive Member at PwC Southern Africa and a  Managing Partner at the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces (North East Region).

“Yvonne Chaka Chaka” is a performing artist, entrepreneur, and humanitarian.  She is currently a UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador against malaria, and also Ambassador for Roll-Back Malaria (sponsored by the World Bank, United Nations, World Health Organization, and other institutions).

Yvonne tirelessly campaigns for medications and bed nets that will help end malaria in Africa.

Yvonne has also served as Ambassador for the University of South Africa (UNISA); City of Johannesburg Tourism, and Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign.  In 2001 Yvonne was named one of the Top 100 Heroes of South Africa by the Star Newspaper. 

Director - Trevor Brown

Trevor joined Deloitte in 1979 and was admitted to the partnership in 1988. He was appointed Partner-in-Charge of the Johannesburg Audit office in 1997, and was appointed to the firm’s Executive Committee (Exco) in 1998 as the Service Line Leader of Audit. During 2005, he was appointed as the Clients & Markets leader of the Southern African firm, and continued to serve on the Exco. 

In 2011, Trevor resigned from the Exco and was elected to the Southern Africa Board on 1 September 2011 as the Johannesburg representative. He was then elected by the Board as its Chairman and was re-elected to this role in August 2014. He was appointed the Chairman of the Deloitte Africa Board on 1 June 2015.

Director - Gregory Nott

Gregory is the head of the Norton Rose Fulbright’s Africa team based in Johannesburg and is a respected lawyer in South Africa with 28 years of experience acting for significant South African and international companies.  

Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright he was the head of the Africa Group at a leading South African law firm and served on the management committee of Lex Africa, an African legal network.  Gregory has represented a number of significant international clients in the South African Renewable Procurement Power Program (REIPP) and has focused particularly on solar PV and wind projects. In 2010 Gregory was awarded International lawyer of the Year by the UK publication Legal Business

Director - Prof. Mohamed Jahed

Professor Jahed holds a PhD in Economics and has obtained experience and expertise in economic development, economic policy formulation and public and development management.

He has served as senior economic planning specialist at the Development Bank of Southern Africa. He was appointed Deputy Director General: Office of the Premier Limpopo Province, responsible for economic growth and development, economic policy, economic planning, transformation and provincial administration. Prof Jahed joined the South African business sector representative group, the National Business Initiative, as Director of Economics. From 2003 to 2005, he was seconded by the South African Presidency as Chief Economist and Head of Policy, Strategy and Research of the NEPAD Secretariat.
